The sad truth is that you don't always get what you pay for, that unfortunately is the reality. As with any electronic item you purchase you get the quality product and then of course you get the quantity product. Please whatever you do or decide keep this in mind.
There are two main options to go for, a PC based DVR and a stand alone DVR. Don't worry we will give you a rundown on what a PC based and a stand alone DVR has to offer.
A PC based DVR as it implies is a DVR card (digital video recorder) built into a computer box. It runs on Microsoft Windows operating system, and the DVR software is installed on the computer. The PC based DVR offers you a fully functional PC, you can do your word, excel, games etc. on it as per a normal computer and then it offers you a recording system. This might sound like a great option, but unfortunately operating systems get viruses, crash etc.
A stand alone DVR is a DVR dedicated to recording. Stand alone DVR's don't have an operating system (can't get any viruses), games etc. In my opinion a stand alone DVR is always the DVR to go for. As with the PC based DVR, a stand alone DVR can be setup to be viewed over a network or the internet.
